I will be honest, I liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Just a few clicks and a customer can place an order using a freelancer based on a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a price. A huge one.
That is only the very few freelance platforms in which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and blackmail sellers any way they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this post, I wish to talk about a new bad experience as a vendor on Fiverr, and also I chose to give up on the platform entirely.
(I have been advising her on building a reputable accounts, and how to go beyond and above with every previous order. Everything mentioned is her doing, I am only an audience )
In this case, she'd just gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be like any other... so we thought.
The purchase was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had included a bonus logo concept as well as the source file (that is usually helpful hints a part of the costlier package).
The customer"loved" one of those concepts and so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the gig description.
The client came back asking for a social networking kit to choose the logo, something that is clearly not offered as part of her post.
In my advice, my buddy chose to deliver the extra work, although not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the client responded with more demands and some modifications to the social networking files.
At this point, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this individual, they were clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the customer went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a reply and reach out to Fiverr service for assistance, the client did finally go on and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to demonstrate her he/she was Fiverr Reviews - Side Jobs - SuperMoney not kidding.
Shortly after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service query, the client paid an extra $10 for the social networking kit.
Obviously, the payment has been accompanied by still another threat.
At this point, all I wished to do was go all Liam Neeson and search this person down so I could repeatedly punch them in the face.
But, in the time, I still had hope that Fiverr service would step in and rescue my girlfriend from this PITA client.
When the response came from Fiverr support, they told that they couldn't The Best 23 Fiverr Gigs For Online Marketers : How To Outsource ... force the purchaser to take the order.
Alright, that is reasonable enough. (Even though the purchaser already accepted it.)
In addition they suggested drawing up a listing for the purchaser to demonstrate the work was done in accordance to the gig requirements.
Frankly, this response just didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her initial email the customer was attempting to extort her to get free work out the agreed terms, by making a negative inspection if she did not comply.
Obviously, it wasn't really about the job, it had been all about seeking protection from an abusive customer who had been intentionally pushing his luck.
Their answer didn't offer either of us any confidence that Fiverr really understood that, and even in this point we felt like they didn't wish to get involved.
At exactly the identical time, she responded to the buyers most recent threat, explaining that she would not continue to function with them unless the comments had been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be comments which has been clearly and intentionally left to intimidate her to providing function outside the agreed terms.)
An honest petition by anyones standards, right?
Instead of acknowledge what the purchaser had done up until this point, Fiverr immediately turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all of the rules.
Because she had asked the customer to modify their feedback, she was no more eligible for any help from Fiverr support.
It's possible to imagine how we felt reading this.
What the buyer had said and done before her last message has been now being swept under the rug -- as if never happened in any respect.
Fiverr basically opted to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an account she had worked so tough to build up.
And believe me, there are tons of buyers doing exactly this on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
Well, as most of this was occurring, I did a little research to determine whether any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.
Very quickly, I found a range of almost equal cases on the Fiverr forum obsolete years back. (that's correct, years.)
This is clearly something that's been going on for a long time and it all stems from providing buyers also much power over vendors.
If there's one thing I have heard about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time you put into a job, or just how hard you worked on it, or maybe how long you managed communication during a dispute, even if it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even if it's a clear cut case in your favor, there is still every chance the client will come out at the top. All it takes it one tiny thing you"did no way" according to their terms of service and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Looking at the signs, it's clear to me which Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet is still inclined to sit back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, I urge you to seriously reconsider your current support processes for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can set all the time and effort into establishing an account and over-delivering at every possible chance, just to be taken down from the very people you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I really don't wish to leave Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling people to prevent your platform.
But after everything that has occurred, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done to protect freelancers from using this kind of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this post and do anything I can to prevent others from falling victim to your one-sided support team.
The next you actually do something about it and also provide freelancers a way to fight , I will be happy to update this post.
